Adult Riders Dominate Team Challenge

"In youth, we learn; In age, we understand."  Marie van Ebner Eschenbach.  The Area IV Adult Riders dominated the 2nd Annual Young Riders vs Adult Riders Team Challenge at Catalpa Corner Horse Trials in Iowa City, IA August 5th-6th, 2017. 

Teams of four adults or four young riders were formed at each level.  Final team scores were tabulated using the three best final individual scores from each team. 

The Adult Riders were well represented in the competition, fielding 14 of  the 20 teams across the levels and bringing home 6 of the 9 placings awarded. 

The Area IV Young Rider's Preliminary Team of Grace Peters, Jes Skudlarek, Ali Kleinmann and Emily Shirley earned the Young Rider's sole victory with a commanding win over the 3 Amiga's Adult Riders.  

The Training level competition was signifantly tighter with just 2 rails between 1st and 3rd.  The Adult Rider's Rock On With your Bad Self (Di Stebbins, Julie Wolfert, Meaghan Marinovich, Carlyn McCann)  took the blue anchored by solid rides by Stebbins and Wolfert who each finished on their dressage scores. The Young Rider team of Samantha Fogg, Elle Choate and Ellie Howland finished in 2nd with the Adult Rider's Marvelous Muggles (Mckenna Oxenden, Stephanie Caston, Tammy Seaborn and Amy Nelson) took 3rd.

The Adult Riders swept the top 6 placings in the Novice division.   Rebecca Hunt, Jana Lyle, Cynthia Wiseman and Melissa Schielein had the lowest total score of the teams competition when their Adult Team Suck It Up, Buttercup finished on 84.1 penalties.  The Adult Riders Unstabled (Paula Frasz, Liana Haule, Ruth Ann Kowalski, Tina Schiffmayer) two day total was 94.6 for 2nd. The Adult Rider's Bellatrices (Heather Chandler, Jutta Lipsky, Elly Bates) brought home 3rd.

Young at Heart  (Adult Riders) was the top team in the Beginner Novice competition. Blaine Hendrickson, Barbara Pickl, Nancy Fronczak and Lynnette Scott took the victory with the Young Rider team of Laura Del Ponte, Lillian Cederlund and Catherine Lee bringing home a solid 2nd place finish.  Leah Lang Gluscic, Camie Stockhausen, Catherine Wunderlich, and Martha Wick were Brewed a Bit Hoppy (Adult Riders) for 3rd. 

The Area IV Adult Riders Program  is open to anyone over the age of 22, professional or amateur. Members are eligible for the Impulsion Low Score Award, clinic rebates, Virtual Teams, Adult Rider Year End Awards and social activities. Learn More

The Young Rider program is offered through USEA for riders twenty-one years of age and younger at all levels of riding. The purpose of the program is to encourage our younger members to become involved in the sport of Eventing and continue this involvement into their adult lives. Opportunities for Young Rider members include clinics, Year End Awards, social events, Virtual Teams competition and the chance to represent Area IV at the North American Young Rider Championships or Hagyard Midsouth Team Challenge.
